Shawn Kaulana Bannister is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) with more than three decades of patient care in military and healthcare settings. He currently provides anesthesia care for a wide range of surgical specialties including cardiac-thoracic, ECMO, neurological, orthopedic, pediatric, trauma, vascular, and general surgery. Shawn Kaulana Bannister’s extensive experience includes clinical and leadership roles in military, community hospital, and ambulatory surgery settings.
Mr. Bannister earned a master of science in nurse anesthesia from Georgetown University and a bachelor of science in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington. In addition to his clinical practice, he has co-authored research on strategies to reduce preoperative anxiety, served as adjunct staff to the U.S. Army graduate program in anesthesia nursing, and directed opioid-sparing anesthesia protocols for orthopedic joint procedures. Mr. Bannister is also a clinical research investigator for the Institute of Regenerative Education.
Prior to specializing in anesthesia, Shawn Kaulana Bannister served as a U.S. Army medic and noncommissioned officer before advancing into critical care nursing roles in intensive care units. He maintains membership in professional organizations such as the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and Disabled American Veterans.
